Call Yr Dentist To Apologise ‘Cos A Festival Entirely Dedicated To Dessert Is Hitting Melb

A festival that’s entirely dedicated to that good, sugary, naughty stuff that Mum’s always told you will make your teeth fall out is swinging into Melbourne next year and bringing with it a bunch of events like the Dessert Championships and something called the Big Donut Throwdown.

Swinging into Melbourne Showgrounds on March 28 & 29, Sweetstock is bringing the sugar, spice, and everything nice to sweet tooths with a whole mountain of treats and snacks.

The delicious dessert of a festival is being put on by the same team who gives us Meatstock every year in Auckland, Sydney, and Melb, and is set to turn the showgrounds into some insane Willy Wonka-esque wonderland filled with as much chocolate, cake, doughnuts, and other sugar-rush-inducing snacks as far as the eye can see.

The festival has announced a few highlights of who you’ll be able to cop a sweet treat from, so wrap your eyes around this lot.

Sweetstock is also going to be home to the Australian Cake Battle, where cake wizards have a total of 45 minutes to create a masterpiece and/or monstrosity while everyone watches. No pressure, right? Will it turn out like my favourite hangover show, Cake Boss? Or will it end up being a little more like the show that gives me incredible stress and anxiety – Nailed It? Who’s to say.

If you’re into really testing your sweet baking abilities, the Australian Dessert Championships will hold it’s second annual event at Sweetstock, where teams create a range of desserts in two hours, to be blind-judged by the Australian Dessert Alliance.

THIS SHOW GIVES ME SO MUCH STRESS.

The festival will also hold an inaugural Big Donut Throwdown, where competitors have three minutes to hoover down as many donuts as they can. It’s being put on by the legit Competitive Eating Australia team (?) league (??) and the winner will take home a cash prize of $2000 and probably a deep desire to never eat another donut ever again.

As well as all the sugary snacks on offer at Sweetstock, there’s also a bunch of bands set to take the stage. Headlined by Sneaky Sound System, Seetstock has also announced Alice IvyJawbreakers, and Approachable Members Of Your Local Community so far, with the promise that more acts will be announced between now and the event in March. All I ask for is Muscles to do a DJ set that’s just Ice Cream on repeat for 30 mins, thanks.

Tickets for Sweetstock are on sale soon, and start at $40 for a single day. Check out all the details over on the Sweetstock website.
