“I just need to grab a few things from Woolies“ was my mother’s go-to phrase for initiating this wretched activity – a situation that inevitably ended in fat ol’ tantrum somewhere between the cleaning products and international food aisles.
Given that standing around and watching our life-givers unnecessarily chew the fat with some friend they hadn’t seen in 20 years was about as entertaining as watching paint dry, we had no choice but to alleviate our soul-crushing boredom.
This meant embarking on a solo exploration of the shopping centre, and for me, the exercise usually ended with one of the food court’s staff whipping out the ‘slippery when wet‘ sign. Yes, the trail of tears I’d leave behind as mum dragged me away from Donut King‘s drool-inducing window display was a legitimate OH&S issue.
Jks, but you get the picture.
Imagining what you’d do if you had unadulterated access to all the damn-fine offerings made by the brand is a commonality I believe we all would’ve shared during our childhoods. Life, however, comes along and knocks that pipe dream for six with all that growing up stuff.
