Any pizza lover will tell you that there are two distinct types of pizza cravings. First is the kind, usually after 2 am, where you literally want to inhale the cheapest, greasiest pizza you can get your hands on. The other mood is the complete opposite, where you want nothing more than to savour the taste of carefully-made, quality dough topped with gourmet ingredients.
To celebrate the launch of Doritos Crackers new ‘Meat Lovers Pizza’ and ‘Cheesy Pizza’ flavours, six top-notch pizzerias across Australia have each been tasked with whipping up their very own bespoke menu items featuring the tasty treats, with the winning restaurant taking home a $30k prize.
Here are two must-know Melbourne pizzerias competing in the challenge, along with their delish pizza creations.
If you get late night pizza cravings, you’re gonna absolutely froth this place. Connie’s is a cute as heck Melbourne pizza joint serving pizza to the wee hours of the morning (’til 3 am Friday to Saturday and 1 am on Sunday).
Their pièce de résistance? The ‘That’s Amore Meat Pizza’, featuring chilli and fennel salami, beef bresaola, pork salami, with the addition of pork and fennel sausage and pepperoni. As for the Doritos Crackers, they’ll be folded into the dough and sprinkled on top for a little extra texture.

Here’s another Melbourne place to add to your list: Homeslice Pizza. Located in Richmond, a stone’s throw away from the MCG, this haunt got your perfect pre-game feed sorted. Whether you’re more of a classic margarita kinda person or are keen to try their spicy new Doritizza offering (topped with both Doritos Crackers flavours, marinated onion and capsicum, finished with a load of mozzarella and guac), either way you’re definitely not going home hungry.
Salivate over this:
Keep your eyes peeled for the other competitors’ profiles, and stay tuned for further Doritos pizza goodness. It’s going to be a bloody tough decision to make. Either way, we’re salivating.Image: Instagram / @conniespizzamelbourne
