Daddy George Clooney Sells Tequila Biz He Started “On A Whim” For $1.3B

George Clooney
He’s a fantastic actor, philanthropist, activist and certified DILF of the highest proportions.
He’s also a founder of tequila company Casamigos that was today sold for a whopping $1.3 billion dollars.
we’re shocked too
Casamigos, which translates to ‘house of friends’, was founded four years ago by Clooney, real estate developer Mike Meldma and entrepreneur Rande Gerber (who is Cindy Crawford‘s husband, no less).
The real kicker is that Clooney supposes the brand was created on a whim. Casamigos was thought up when Clooney and Gerber bought neighbouring properties in Mexico and started drinking tequila together. They got so into the agave drank they decided to make their own.

“Our idea was to make the best-tasting, smoothest tequila whose taste didn’t have to be covered up with salt or lime,” the founders wrote on their Facebook page.
Initially, the blokes made it just for their own enjoyment, but after two years their distillery was getting so many orders for “samples” they decided to have the drink licensed for sale to the public. From there, it became one of the most sought after tequila brands in the world.
Casamigos been bought out by global liquor conglomerate, Diageo, who also lay claim to Johnnie Walker, Guinness and Captain Morgan.

The nitty gritty of the deal is that Diageo paid AUD$927 million for the brand straight up, then they’ll pay another AUD$397 million over ten years provided the brand hits performance targets.

“If you asked us four years ago if we had a billion-dollar company, I don’t think we would have said yes. This reflects Diageo’s belief in our company and our belief in Diageo,” Clooney wrote in a statement.
well played, my man
