Lord help you if you attempt to bastardise the sacred institution known as American BBQ food. The smoked meat phenomenon is held up as as close to God as food could possibly ever get in southern states of the union, and with good reason: When it’s good, it’s a borderline holy experience. But, much like the relationship between burritos and Southern California, the further you are from the region the worse the food is going to be. And thus, we have the internet’s latest curiosity: This questionable plate of “Brooklyn” BBQ.
A photo of a plate of food from Fette Sau, one of the New York borough’s leading meat houses, is tearing the internet asunder thanks to an article on VICE‘s food offshoot Munchies pondering why exactly Brooklyn-style BBQ was taking over the world.

It’s a perfectly reasonable article based on the copycat phenomena of Brooklyn-style copycat BBQ joints opening across several international cities thanks in large part to a) New York City being New York City, and b) Fette Sau’s superior branding.
‘Course that’s all well and good, but good lord that plate. A serving size suitable for patients recovering from surgery, at best.
The internet was quick to, firstly, point out what constitutes *real* BBQ…

‘Course Munchies, as always, has a good sense of humour about itself or – at the very least – has an employee manning its Twitter account who has had just about enough of it for one day.

Whatever the case, we’re now jonesing for some brisket so ah… in a roundabout way, mission accomplished.
