We Created The Best Movie & Cuisine Combos, ‘Cos Couch Food Is Serious Business

Contributor: PEDESTRIAN.TV

Numero uno: you’ve decided to order some delivery – great start (who can be bothered cooking?).

Numero dos: can’t decide what type of food to order. We empathise – this is a tricky one.

Figuring out what to order while having a couch marathon is no easy task. In fact, it takes years of hard-work, determination and trial-and-error to correctly guess exactly what your tum is craving.

As is the case with most things in life, it’s important to read the room, and this directly relates to the specific genre of film you’re planning to watch. Don’t sweat, though – we’ve created the ultimate movie genre and cuisine pairings so that you aren’t left with delivery regret. Let’s get this bread (or pizza or sushi or… you get what I mean).

Final Destination & Gore: Salad

This one depends on how squeamish you usually are with blood and guts. If you’re someone who has a sensitive stomach, maybe it’s best to keep with a light salad when watching flicks like Saw or Hostel instead of a hearty pasta. Less worst-case-scenario clean-up, if you catch my drifty.

The Notebook & Rom-coms: Confectionary

When life plucks your heart-strings, it’s an absolute necessity to dive into some sweet foods – particularly if you’re a singleton like moi, watching rom-coms, feeling jealous about happy-endings and subsequently craving confectionary because it’s the only way to fill that temporary void of loneliness. Too far? Sorry, I just have a lot of feelings *Eats a chip*

The Fault in Our Stars & Tear-jerkers: Pasta

Similarly, when watching a film that’ll make your tear-ducts gush at a faster pace than Niagara Falls, it’s important to order hearty, comfort food – like a big bowl of pasta to hug tight. No salt necessary – just let your eye water gush into the bowl. Au naturel.

Avatar & Sci-fi/Adventure: Curry

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Avatar, The Wizard of Oz or Interstellar, you need to prep yourself for a long-winded adventure and a roller-coaster of emotions. Nothing will provide more fuel for this roller-coaster than a filling curry with a bowl of rice to soak it all up. Froth.

The Sound of Music & Musicals: Anything fancy

Let us tell you a few of our favourite things. “I always have super fancy food when I watch musicals and theatre,” my friend Steph told me. This makes sense, as musicals and theatrical performances are often synonymous with high-brow content and, according to our boujee stomachs, high-brow equates to fancy food orders – whatever that may be. Julie Andrews wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Castle & Australiana: BBQ foods

Need I say more? Hearty BBQ foods and Australiana films are a match made in heaven. Nothing says patriotism like chomping on some char-grilled goods while soaking up all that Australian-ness.

Australia, binch.

Feeling inspired to watch your fav flicks now while snacking out on some beautiful foods? Well, the best part about all of this is that you only have to tap your fingers on a screen to get all of these cuisines delivered to you – and walk a couple steps from the couch to the front door, obv.

From 5 August – 31 October (13 precious weeks), we’re giving away 1-year’s worth of free Deliveroo delivery (tongue-twister) to a new person each day. Yes, EACH DAY. For one lucky hooman, they’ll win free delivery for life.

All you have to do is keep your eyes peeled for the weekly “The Pursuit of Food Freedom” episodes on our social media. There’ll be a code added to the end of each episode which you can chuck into the app the next time you’re ordering Deliveroo to go into the draw to win.

Happy food-lovin’, kiddies.
