A $39.99 gin from Aldi has taken out the title of world’s best flavoured gin in a huge win for cheapskates across Australia.

Aldi is a cheapo’s heaven, but it turns out sometimes cheaper is actually better, especially when it comes to gin. The Greyson’s Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin, which retails for less than $40, took out the Master’s awards for the best flavoured gin at the International Gin Masters competition.

Greyson’s took out the award alongside two other products, the Glendalough Rose Gin and Bedrock Gooseberry and Elderflower Gin, beating out 40 finalists from a variety of price points and brands. The three finalists will now battle it out for the overall Gin Taste Master 2020 title.

The awards are led by The Spirits Business, and involve a number of expert spirit specialists from across the globe blind taste-testing a variety of spirits.

The victory isn’t the first time an Aldi gin has been recognised at the coveted gin awards, with the Darley’s Traditional Dry Gin ($29.99) and the Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin ($32.99) both picking up gold medals during the 2019 awards.

Greyson’s Orange & Persian Lime Gin has been described as having fresh citrus notes and a “bright” flavour, with hints of sweet lime, juniper and zesty orange, which quite frankly sounds delicious. For less than $40, you’d be stupid not to invest in a bottle.

Whip it out at your next party and remind your friends that you’re a fancy bitch who only drinks the best quality gin, as decided by the international gin awards. We stan a sophisticated taste palette.

For just over $100, you can pick up three internationally acclaimed bottles of grog from your local Aldi. We are truly blessed. What a time to be alive. Unless of course, you live in QLD or SA and don’t have the blessing that is Aldi liquor.
