Read on for all the cosmic wisdom you'll need...

Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2026

Blood Moon

Nicole Kidman tried to warn us about that dang Blood Moon on Practical Magic.

What is a Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse?

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon line up at a certain angle so the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow.

When this happens, the moon turns a blood reddish colour, hence the name.

It's relatively rare, given the last one was in November of 2022 and moon gazers have been eagerly awaiting this event for the last two years.

Is it visible in Australia?

The 2026 Blood Moon will be visible across all of Australia, but the east coast will get the full show from start to finish.

Parts of central and western Australia may have limited visibility at first, as the eclipse begins before sunset. Once the sun dips below the horizon, the later phases of the eclipse should still be visible in those regions.

When can we see the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in Australia?

Set your alarms, moon babes:

  • Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart – 10.04pm
  • Brisbane – starts 9.04pm, ends 10.02pm
  • Adelaide – starts 9.34pm, ends 10.32pm

Where is the best place to see it?

No telescope? No problem. As long as the skies are clear, you’ll be able to spot the Moon glowing in the west with nothing but your own two eyes.

She’ll be shining high and bright when the eclipse kicks off -- impossible to miss if the clouds play nice.

The only catch? This cosmic spectacle is short and sweet, just a couple of hours. So if the weather’s moody and clouds roll in, you might have to surrender to the mystery of divine timing. Sometimes the universe reminds us: not every magic moment is ours to control.

When is the next Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse?

This is the last one 'til 2029, so don't miss it!

Should I charge my crystals?

Absolutely NOT. Here's why.

What does the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse mean in astrology?
