Scarlett Johansson hasn't given up on this singing thing quite yet, lending her voice to a cover of Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye". Yep, Jeff Buckley. That's like The Wiggles trying to cover Sonic Youth - kill me now.
Scar Jo covered the song for the soundtrack to "He's Just Not That Into You" a film which is according to Stereogum "based on a self-help book based on an episode of Sex & The City" a premise which sounds marginally better than the prospect of Scarlett channeling Jeff Buckley.
Surprisingly the soundtrack is a fairly heavy-hitting affair with My Morning Jacket, R.E.M., Talking Heads, Wilco, The Replacements and The Cure also featuring but back to Scar Jo - is she crazy? Where the original was visceral heart-on-your-sleeve emotion crooned by a man with the voice of an angel, Scar Jo's version is a hokey lounge reinterpretation which strips the song of all emotional resonance. In short, the kind of thing you'd expect from the redheaded Aussie Bill Murray bones in "Lost In Translation".
