LMFF Event Guide: Pedestrian's Top 5 Picks  February 2, 2012

L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) has unveiled its 2012 program containing junkets for major retailers, sponsored parades and industry workshops, seminars and forums packed into the seven-day spectacle. The festival runs from 8 to 15 March and these are our top picks of the events and shows held throughout the week:

L’ORÉAL PARIS RUNWAY 04 Of all the major runway events this is the one to watch. Sponsored by Vogue.com.au the presenting labels are some of the best and freshest up and coming labels in Australia: Christopher Esber, Dion Lee, ELLERY, Gary Bigeni, Josh Goot, Magdalena Velevska, and Therese Rawsthorne.

VON FOLLIES BY DITA VON TEESE FOR TARGET AUSTRALIA A chance to see one of the world's most renowned burlesque performers modeling her own line of lingerie? Take a date. Make a night of it.

LMFF NATIONAL GRADUATE SHOWCASE Forget the stalwarts and predictable buzz brands - It's the student Showcase that often features the most inspiring fashion and tends to draw some of the biggest crowds. The runway show provides recent grad designers a platform to show off their talent in a professional domain, including the plaidtastic unisex creations of Sally Edwards, and the much buzzed about designer-on-the-rise Anna Langdon.

LMFF INDEPENDENT RUNWAYS A very entertaining runway show full of unpredictable indies and industry rebels: Extinct, Francis Leon, Garth Cook, Jolet, ksubi, Livia Arena, Lui Hon, One Fell Swoop, Something Else and Song for the Mute come together in a unique runway production that blends fashion, music and art. Presented by Yen & The Thousands this ought to be a 20-80 split between fashion show and party.

GRACE KELLY: STYLE ICON Something for fans or fashion and film, Bendigo Art Gallery hosts a fabulous exhibition tracing the iconic blonde's life in conjunction with LMFF. Featuring dresses from her wedding trousseau to the gown she wore to accept her Oscar in 1955, the exhibition also explores the evolution of her style as Princess Grace of Monaco, and includes her haute couture gowns of the 1960s and 1970s by her favourite couturiers Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Yves St Laurent.
