Chinese artist Li Wei mixes aspects of performance art, acrobatics, photography and good old fashioned misdirection to produce photos with jaw dropping compositions. Depicting surrealist scenes such as the artists head torpedoed into the ground or hanging horizontally out of a building window, Li Wei maintains that the photos are in no way computer generated instead opting for mirrors, scaffolding and cables to create his art. Crazy? Maybe a little bit. Eccentric? Most definitely! Li Wei once invited journalists and fellow artists to watch a performed a piece entitled "It Would Not Die Away Such" He then lay in a bed which was then covered with dirt, the only thing visible being his erect penis. Check out more pics below or at his website.

I hate when people call things like this "art"..
adam - Nov 03, 2009 at 05:43am
holy shiz this is great!
Kay - Nov 03, 2009 at 05:56pm
This work is great!

And I hate when people hate calling things like this art because they think they're art experts, but I guess everyone's entitled to an opinion. It's creative right? Just not what you may like or are used to.
adam - Nov 04, 2009 at 05:03pm
@....

How isn't this art? You need to open your mind a bit, there is so much more to art than paintings and sculptures.
CraigOS - Nov 08, 2009 at 04:02pm
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes, art is knowing which ones to keep...

tyoki - Nov 28, 2009 at 05:32am
art is subjective.
rob - Dec 11, 2009 at 09:14am
if you read the description you would see he didnt use photoshop, only acrobatics, wires, and mirrors.
Samantha - Dec 27, 2009 at 05:10pm
Okay you can't say this isn't art. Opinion wise you can say you don't like it but to say it's not art is completely false. In my opinion the artist achieved what he was going for. I tensed up on a couple of the pics therefore it is good art in my opinion. Art is looked at as people are looked at. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This is amazing, excellent work, my photos are not nearly as dramatic. http://budurl.com/SomePhotos

saying something isnt art means your going by a certain term usage of the word, and as soon as youve done that, youve lost the true meaning of art
Vivien - Jan 18, 2010 at 03:26am
This isn't photoshopped, as others have said. There's a site somewhere else with more of his works, as well as some photos of him setting up to take these shots, He uses thin wires to hang himself in these positions, much like a magician doing a levitation trick.
Тяαvίs Cαllίsoи - Jan 31, 2010 at 06:09pm
This is brilliant and yes it is art, anyone who has anything bad to say about any form of art is just a troll with no talent and is jealous of the artist. get a life trolls!

Yeah, this is pretty coo-....wait, what the fuck?
"Li Wei once invited journalists and fellow artists to watch a performed a piece entitled "It Would Not Die Away Such" He then lay in a bed which was then covered with dirt, the only thing visible being his erect penis."
whaaaaaaaaaat.
Bob - Feb 06, 2010 at 05:16am
It's funny how he has the same clothes on in all of these pictures. It's like he had one hell of a day, lol
shoveit - Apr 09, 2010 at 01:05pm
@....do you know anything about art to back that statement up? could you do this? could you arrange these complex and dynamic compositions yourself? could your tiny excuse for a chode of a brain even figure out how to work the camera? keep your fucking mouth shut if you don't have anything respectful to say, because one thing is for sure, that guys is doing MUCH cooler things than you right now.

YOUR COMMENT*These are interesting photographs. I don’t know how they were done but the end result look very good.
Uncorrect - May 23, 2010 at 01:57pm
I have seen much of Mr. Li's work on teh interwebs and in art classes at school. It is very well done (and no, he doesn't need to use photoshop - old school camera tricks are all it takes) and I love his dramatic use of space, balance, orientation, and tension. Good collection of his work!
trevor - Jul 19, 2010 at 01:10pm
well according to dictionary.com art is the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. Clearly Li Wei is expressing his form of art. Something that may be appealing, beautiful or out of the ordinary may not be how you see it. They're over 3 billion people on this planet not everyone sees out of your eyes!
Poppy - Jul 21, 2010 at 01:04am
This is really good! But the whole 'watching people to come and see his penis' thing, most people would not be able to get away with that, but it's ok if he does it, as long as he calls it art?
