From sordid tales in the "dark of the matinée" to skinny ties as sharp as their cheekbones, Scottish four-piece Franz Ferdinand emit a certain sexiness that belie their pasty skin and crooked dention...

New cut "Ulysses" ensures the trend continues, infusing their trademark guitar jangle with a heavier reliance on synthesizers (as if they could get any dancier)."C'mon lets get high" Kapranos croons with the youthful exuberance of a hedonistic teenager and for 3 minutes, that's just what I become. It's all familiar territory - sex, drugs, and rock and roll soundtracked by sprightly guitars, pulsating bass lines and four to the floor drum beats. Where Franz Ferdinand succeed over the plethora of Gang of Four cover bands and bland 80's synth pastiches indie-dance has spawned, is their ability to tweak the formula just enough that they sound completely unique. Primordial in sentiment yet cerebral in execution this is the Franz Ferdinand I know and love, can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Check out the track below and expect a Kris Moyes directed film clip in the not too distant future...
