UK based DJ and dance Producer Adam Freeland has accused US hip hop troupe Black Eyed Peas of lifting samples from his track "Mancry" (last month's Cope LP) in their single "Party All The Time" taken from new album The E.N.D.

Freeland alerted fans to the alleged plagiarism via Twitter saying: "OK. Check this. Listen to our song 'Mancry'. Now listen to Black Eyed Peas 'Party All The Time' WTF!"

WTF indeed, check out the below video which juxtaposes the two tracks and let us know if Freeland has a case.

Will.I.Am of course is no stranger to accusations of plagiarism after a self remixed cut of 'I Got it From My Momma' which sampled Daft Punk's 'Around the World' got shot down by the Parisian robot's lawyers.

I dont understand the plagiarism charge? Its just a sample isnt it. Daft Punk have based their careers on sampling huge chunks of other peoples tracks.
The issue is crediting the sample.

Personally I think Will I Am should be sued just for releasing those tracks full stop

Since when has the Black Eyed Peas been relevant to Pedestrian.

If you don't pay the royalties for the sample or credit the original source, then yes, it is plagarism.

Remember the whole 'bitter sweet symphony' thing where they lost a HUGE chunk of the royalties for not crediting the sample in the song and paying for it?

It is like someone running paid tours of your garden, and letting everyone assume it is their garden. Would you be annoyed if that happened and you didn't get at least a cut of the profits from the tours?

@Mikey - Neil & Nick have some very interesting input. obviously it is relevant. thx for your contribution. dickhead.

BEP are pretty notorious bandwagon jumpers. most contemporary artists have the sense to sample music from at least a few decades back - avoiding the more "obvious" plagiarism.

this wouldnt even be an issue if artists had real talent and made original music.
such a high percentage of modern music is ripped off and its fucking lame.
the entire genre of aussie hip hop is a rip off!

i say bring back identity, and if you dont have one then dont release music as your own when its not.

btw lol at garden metaphor.

i hear ya.. i think there can be a healthy balance. but there's nothing wrong with sampling: it's essentially drawing inspiration - we live in a remix culture.
wawa - Jul 09, 2009 at 06:09pm
yeah we do live in a remix culture, but for me its not by choice.
its easy to enjoy the things you already know, so from an artists perspective its easy to appeal to people when you already know what they like.
not many original artists out there get to make it big because our generation is so used to hearing regurgitated sounds that we alienate new ones and rarely give them a chance to be heard.
we are our own worst enemy on this one.

the past 10 years has been dull and insignificant, every decade since the 50's has had its own identity and culture except this one.

we need a cultural revolution soon or us and our future generations are going to become drones to the commercial machine and live in the hype that once was.
