Tina Kalivas Goes Tribal In Polyrhythms
As evidenced by AW09's Zarafshan, a collection inspired by khaki military uniforms and traditional Afghani craftswomen, Australian designer Tina Kalivas modernizes ethnic influences with all due reverence and not an iota of exploitation. She's like the Diplo of fashion. Likewise, her latest collection Polyrhythms marries colourful African prints with structural skirts and dresses that fold, pleat and frill from the waist with pattern mixing symmetry. If MGMT were a far more fashionable girl group this is what they would be wearing and we'd all be in love.
