After 17 years of madcap Britpop shenanigans Supergrass have broken up.

The split seems amicable as per the band's official statement:

"Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliché notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on and of course we all wish each other well in the future."

Thanks for all the sweet, sweet Britpop

In addition to writing poptastic radio hits Supergrass also accomplished a shiteload of critical acclaim too: their first single, "Caught by the Fuzz" was championed by UK radio legend of flawless taste John Peel. Their album I Should Coco was nominated for the 1995 Mercury Prize (ultimately won by Portishead's Dummy) and won at the Q, NME and BRIT Awards that year; while "Alright" won an Ivor Novello songwriting award and made for one of the best scenes in Clueless.

Thanks Nineties.
