News.

As we reported last week, The Avalanches are putting the finishing touches on the as-yet-untitled followup to 2000's Since I Left You. In fact, according to an Avalanches forum administrator who we assume is close to the band, the long-gestating sophomore LP will be in the can once chillwave forefather Ariel Pink records some vocals.

Now, in a remark that corroborates the above pant-creaming rumour, Modular Records staffer Axel Moline says "It's gonna be out at the end of the year. That's what we get told". Moline was asked about the sophomore Avalanches album by Creative Sydney Artistic Director Jess Scully who chaired a panel discussion called Local Talent, Global Market as part of last week's festival.

The Avalanches question comes up at 2:45 but you should probably watch the whole thing anyway.

Dudes, talk about a misquote. He said:

"It's gonna be out at the end of the year. That's what we get told ... every year"

It's nothing to get excited about.

Good point Fred. Believe it when I'm listening to it ... which I'm in no hurry to do seeing as DJ Dexter has nothing to do with the Avalanches anymore. It'd be extremely surprising if they could make an album that touches Since I Left You's genius without him.

my dear friend I can't say that I'm surprised that they want to go in a different direction... I love it and it won a Grammy but I never thought that WAM sounded much like Phoenix
