Yesterday we spoke to Dayve Hawk better known as Memory Tapes - a musician we quickly fell in love with from the moment we heard his beautiful lo-fi 'indietronic' track "Bicycles" last year of debut album Seek Magic

The Memory Tapes sound is nostalgic and sprawling (many of his tracks are over 7 minutes in length) and this epic, cinematic quality of the tunes prompted us to ask Dayve whether he would ever consider a move into film to write a score or compose a movie soundtrack and this is what he said:

"I have actually talked to some friends about it and it's something we've always talked about - not necessarily about making a proper movie but doing one of those records like a "Magical Mystery Tour" kind of a thing - but hopefully better than that!"

So a kind of concept album with visuals built around the sound?

"Right like a visual kind of a record. I think something like that would be really fun to do..."

He told Pedestrian his favourite filmmakers are Stanley Kubrick and Terry Gilliam's earlier work, as well as Requiem For A Dream director Darren Aronofsky - all directors of visually dazzling, stylish, provocative, surrealist cinema. With his second album to be released around November/December, hopefully the Memory Tapes cinematic debut won't be too far around the corner...
