Legendary Bleecker St dive bar, CBGB, credited as the centrepoint of the American punk movement, is gone (as of 2008) but definitely not forgotten having hosted early performances by bands like Talking Heads, Ramones, Suicide and Patti Smith; so the fact it's the subject of an upcoming feature film is historically and culturally apropos. A recent addition to the CBGB cast is the scrawny Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins to portray godlike front man Iggy Pop.

Despite Hawkins' acting history (i.e. a non existent one) this seems like a nice piece of casting, particularly in terms of the physicality of the role. Hawkins shares the trademark lean flailing arms and stringy blond Iggy Pop styling, and he's had his share of performing before large crowds. The movie, directed by Bottle Shock's Randall Miller, also has Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman, Stana Katic and ginger-haired Harry Potterstar Rupert Grint on board to star.

CBGB goes into production later this year. Who knows whether it'll be any good but we can guarantee the soundtrack will be fucking amazing.
