Much like Melbourne's Don't Come earlier this year, Sydney's Capital-L a much loved boutique on South Dowling Street, Darlinghurst has called it quits after nine years of trade.
Always ahead of the fashion curve, the Sydney boutique nurtured local talent such as Sass & Bide, Willow, Ksubi, Kirrily Johnston, Josh Goot, Romance was Born, Friedrich Gray, Marnie Skillings and count Destiny's Child, Nicole Ritchie, Kim Gordon, Andre 3000, Ashlee Simpson, Naomi Watts, Heath Ledger (RIP) and Gemma Ward among its celebrity clientele.
In an email sent yesterday, the retailer announced its intentions to sell the business. You will be missed Capital-L!
CAPITAL-L has just turned 9 and after an incredible journey of L'ove and L'uck, and with the birth of little Max we have decided we will consider selling the business.
The nesting ground for emerging Australian designers, since we opened on Melbourne Cup day 2000 we have nurtured our top brands: Sass & Bide, Willow, Ksubi, Kirrily Johnston, Josh Goot, Romance was Born, Friedrich Gray, Marnie Skillings to name just a few of the hundreds of labels we have represented. And we have introduced international brands such as Jean Pierre Braganza, Robert Cary Williams, PPQ, Heatherette, Unconditional and Surface to Air to Australia.
We have helped celebrity shoppers: we promised we wouldn't kiss and tell, but let's just say the likes of Destiny's Child, Nicole Ritchie, Kim Gordon, Andre 3000, Ashlee Simpson, Naomi Watts, Heath Ledger (RIP), Gemma Ward are better dressed since they visited our little corner of the world.
And we've had celebrity staff: Sneaky Sound System's Daimon Downey, Pip Edwards, Camilla (and Marc), Young Talent Time's Natalie Miller, Sheridan Tyler, artist and Martin Sharp's god daughter Jedda Daisy Culley and Matt from Van She.
The whole of Sydney looks forward to our email once a week and if you weren't invited to one of our infamous parties then you have probably gatecrashed. Our mixtape comp has all the sydney djs beating off & our colab mural involved the creme of the sydney art scene.
Our inhouse label PleaseLouise is well-represented at the Oxford Art Factory and Good God, and was an official sponsor of "Kids Today" Semi Permanent art exhibition. To maintain exclusivity PleaseLouise is solely available at CAPITAL-L in Australia. It is represented in Tokyo at DualTokyo.
Since you guys have been along with us for the ride we thought we'd include you in this circulation - we'd like to ensure our first baby stays in L'oving hands.
Please contact us by return email if you are interested. And feel free to pass the word around. xL
