Glastonbury: the worshiping ground where music devotees from around the world make a mass migration each year to dance, sweat, be rained on, hug, trip, lose things, smell, celebrate and party with over 100,000 like-minded and unwashed individuals for five consecutive days. It's a festival experience like no other, a love-in of mass proportions, and one that can't really be described - it's one of those things you have to experience to understand. This year was the festival's 40th anniversary and, after five of the hottest days in Glastonbury history, it has wrapped up with an amazing closing performance by Stevie Wonder where he invited festival founder, Michael Eavis, onstage to sing happy birthday to the event.
Apart from Wonder's first time appearance at Worthy Farm other reported highlights include:
Julian Casablancas played a solo gig on the John Peel Stage, climbed the stage lighting rigging for "Ludlow St" before dangling into the hysterical audience.
Kylie Minogue jumped on stage for a surprise performance with Scissors Sisters.
The XX were performing their cover of Florence & The Machine's "You've Got The Love" when they had a special guest jump onto the John Peel Stage.
Another exciting cameo was when U2 guitarist The Edge joined Muse for a great cover of "Where The Streets Have No Name". U2 were originally set to perform the closing set for the Saturday night but had to cancel because of Bono's injured back.
Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood did a surprise show together, playing Yorke's solo stuff as well as Radiohead classics like "Karma Police" and closed with "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" as the sun set. Yikes, how good. He also looked well urban in a sweat band.
Glastonbury has also become an event with a high celebrity attendance, particularly with the British 'It girl' crew: Sienna Miller, Burberry darling and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, various Geldofs, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung were all hanging backstage in short cutoffs and large sunglasses.

Glastonbury will be back for the 41st year in 2011 and, as anyone who has been will tell you, it is an event well worth experiencing at least once in your life.
