Remember how Polaroid film went out of production because it wasn't financially viable in the era of digital point and shoots? Remember how "The Impossible Project", a rag tag crew of Polaroid enthusiasts and former Polaroid employees, acquired the rights and means to produce Polaroid film by themselves? Remember how the project lived up to its name when it faced bankruptcy? Remember how people hoarded Polaroid Film like it was future currency?

Well if you remember any of those events and love the immediacy, unpredictably and charm of Polaroid film, this message from the The Impossible Project should make your day...

The Impossible Project inspires Polaroid to re-launch Instant Cameras

We are pleased to herewith announce a history making cooperation between Polaroid and The Impossible Project:

As we have created quite some buzz about Analog Instant Photography over the past 12 months, the Polaroid licensee - The Summit Global Group - now can't resist any longer and announced at a press conference on October 13th in Hongkong that they will re-launch some of the most famous Polaroid Instant Cameras.

Therefore they are commissioning The Impossible Project to develop and produce a limited edition of Polaroid branded Instant Films in the middle of 2010.

The Impossible Project is proud and excited that its ambitions and all the relentless work that has already been invested are now becoming the foundation for Polaroid's comeback as a producer of Instant Cameras.

Large-scale production and worldwide sale of The Impossible Project's new integral film materials under its own brand will already start in the beginning of 2010 - with a brand new and astonishing black and white Instant Film and the first colour films to follow in the course of the year.

The Impossible Project never faced bankruptcy - POLAROID went bankrupt. Get your facts straight.

So...a Polaroid with a memory card docked in...you can have your instant gratification via the instant print but then have them all backed up on a memory card for use in other ways...I know it sucked ass to have a beloved Polaroid pic is next to me in my car after a spontaneous shot or whatever then either someone sits on it...something is spilled on it etc. Tada! It is on a back up! Woot...it's all good. That is an idea.

polaroid film is used a lot in regular photography to frame shots and check lighting. if it looks good on a polaroid, chances are, it will look good with your $25,000 digital body analogue front end studio camera.

They also use it for movies to frame shots. The whole "take pictures with a polaroid" just to take pictures is such a tiny subset of it's overall use, that's why people were hoarding the film, not because you can scan the pictures and make your friends think you're all RETRO.

seriously, the whole point of bringing back an analog camera isnt so you can put all your cute pics on facebook, that is not the point. They are bringing back an icon, a legend. Books have been written about these revolutionary cameras, if you want it all easy and even more instant just buy a regular digital camera, and put the polaroid template on a picture in photoshop or something.

Perfect, there you go guys, seems like the camera you want has been out for a few months. A 5 megapixel digital camera with the Polaroid name with a built in printer for your digital photos.

The Impossible Project is about Analog Instant Photography.

Analog.

The smart thing to do would be to make digital polaroids. You snap a photo and then go into your photos and print all the pictures you want on classic polaroid film, all from the camera itself. I know I for one would love the option to instantly print, but would miss being able to upload it on facebook if there were no digital features.

to shay:

use a scanner.

why would you buy a polaroid camera, if you want digital photos?

Yes margot. You could do that. But Polaroid photographs are hard to photograph because of how reflective the surface is. Now if Polaroid included something as simple as a micro card to their camera you could potentially just take out the card, and upload the images onto your computer.

to carrie:

1. take a polaroid picture.
2. let it develop.
3. take a digital picture of the polaroid picture.
4. upload that to facebook.
