Is 2009 the year Australian indie bands start making money?

With Dappled writing songs for Disney and The Temper Trap designing their own beer it seems as though Australia's indie rock favourites are finally on the road to financial freedom.

NELSON beer aka Australia's only "indie" targeted beer label recently got The Temper Trap on board to get all adobe illustrator with their label. Looks pretty groovy too. The only downfall is the fact that it's only going to be sold in Melbourne!

Drinkers can pick one up from select venues around Melbourne including: Sister Bella, Collins Quarter, Katuk, Argy Bargy, Yellow Bird, Revolver, Mr Wilkinson, Electric Lady Land, Trunk, Nevermind, Windsor Castle, Cherry Bar, Carlton Club, Blue Bar and is sold for around $8.00 per bottle as of July 09.

a couple of cents here...

but why is everyone on the blogosphere still prattling on about record labels having people by the balls. its not 1987. not every label out there is a selfish, money hungry behemoth. most actually have their balls in the very same vice that bands find themselves in and are actually trying to find their artists money through much these same things and touring etc... it's that lame old excuse to make people feel justified in grabbing bands music for free. actually a very funny post on this point on the blog 'stuff white people like' check it out!

TTT, as long as the beer tastes good surely it's a good idea! big day out do it in any case, had anyone noticed? pretty sure i saw midnight juggernauts on a can or two in 2008?

dude as if this is lame!!!,

these indie bands work there ass off and usually make nothing. so a beer wants to let them design a little label and give them a nice big cheque. BIG DEAL. Noone buys albums any more, record labels have everyone by the balls, live shows are usually make nothing by the time you fly five people and hotels etc, endorsements are basically what allows artists to survive financially. Temper trap deserve this big time and have hardly taken an easy road. They have always taken a credible path and they deserve all this and more,

That's the fucking lamest thing ever.

Is it because Dougy and Johnny from the Temper Trap are both bartenders at St Jerome's / Sister Bella's?

I mean, seriously....it's just fucking stupid. The Temper Trap should stop this type of lame opportunism. What's next? Los Valentinos cola? Dappled Cities Fly sundaes at McDonalds?

These big companies will do the dumbest things to appear 'indie'.

Do they use this as an instrument on the upcoming release?
Like bottle flutes or something. That would be sweet.

It's a great tasting beer too, I was fortunate to be given some of the trial stock.
