Maybe the title and main image of this post are a little misleading, especially for those who were expecting a Terry Richardson-directed Blue Lagoon-ish thing starring the babes of the world without clothes on - as the Pirelli Calendar still pics generally allude to. And while there will be no shortage of beautiful women in documentary 'The Saga of the Pirelli calendar' by Emmanuel Le Ber the film focuses on the calendar's history, from 1964 to 2010, behind the scenes, and how it's become a marketing phenomenon. As if the Goodyear blimp can't compete with 12 beautiful, semi-nude chicks.

Calendars in previous years have been lensed by prolific photographers like Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier and Annie Leibovitz. Karl Lagerfeld, who was given the enviable task of shooting the 2011 Pirelli calendar said, "The Pirelli Calendar is a myth, a tribute to the woman, sometimes anticipates the mores of society with its aesthetic codes and archetypes, and marks the future."

The 2011 calendar will be distributed to limited list of Pirelli stakeholders and VIPs on November 30. You can watch behind-the-scenes footage of 2010 below.
