News.
Despite living in different time zones, designers Craig Redman (New York) and Karl Meier (Sydney) collaborate daily. Their most recent work is the glorious Neon Lane, packed-in multicoloured light boxes that cover La Trobe Lane, as well as part of LAS Group's retail development 206 Bourke St.
With a celebration of Melbourne's cultural diversity in mind, Craig & Karl worked with Right Angle Studio, retail architects Angley Arrowsmith, LAS Group and the City of Melbourne to reinvigorate the area. Taking cues from Chinese poetry and Japanese kawaii kitsch, the duo incorporated relevant Asian cultural symbols into the installations and had a bit of fun with them. (Our favourite is the cheeky little Buddha.) The end result is a beautiful, playful jigsaw of colour, and the perfect backdrop to a night out.
Congratulations are due to LAS Group, too, for commissioning such a fun project that respects the integrity of the area and its nightlife. It's always good to see big business supporting artists and designers, and it doesn't go unrewarded.
